Jabuticaba - The Tree that Fruits on its Trunk

This tree stands out from the entire plant diversity of South America with the fact that it is evergreen and that its fruit grows on the trunk. Today, Jabuticaba can be found not only in South America, but also in Asia.

The fruit itself has a diameter of about 3-4 cm. The dark peel hides a sweet and juicy white pulp that resembles jelly. In its natural environment, the tree fruits only one or two times a year. But, when regularly irrigated, it can fruit all year round. Most often, jabuticaba is eaten raw, but sometimes it is used in backing and in making wines and liqueurs. Dried fruit is often used as a remedy for all sorts of diseases.
