Celebrating Christmas With 1.2 Million Lights

Zlatko Salai, 67-year-old Croatian citizen of Grabovnits, has created a real Christmas story for himself and all children in the district. His Christmas Story is his home, which this year is already decorated with 1.2 million lights.

A former engineer owns realestate which is located in the central part of Croatia . As a child he did not have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas, because the family was very poor.

He was without a mother, and his whole family consisted of him and his father. The mill, owned by his father, was destroyed during the Second World War . When Zlatko grew up,he earned money by working in the Middle East and Africa.

Upon returning home, he decided to implement his childhood dream. In 2002, Zlatko decorated his house for the first time, using 70 000 light bulbs. The following year there were already 100 000. Thus, the light and scenery increased in number every year. Holiday spirit and decorations attract kids from all around.

True, Zlatko, is forced to collect a small fee for entrance, as the bill for the light is 12 thousand dollars. However, visitors do not mind and enjoy to help his fellow countryman.

In preparation for the holiday he had to lay 5 km of cables underground and another 180 km to the bushes and trees. Preparations for the event begin three months before Christmas, and then the same again so that all be removed.
